We're looking for new members who:
- Have a passion for music and singing.
- Enjoy collaborating with others.
- Are self-motivated learners.
- Are eager to learn and improve!
- Can commit to regular, weekly rehearsals on Thursday nights.
- Can commit to performances (ie: shows/concerts, community events, office parties, gatherings), and
- Above all – enjoy having FUN!
What you get:
- A variety-filled musical repertoire, rich with chords that "ring"! Sing everything from classic Barbershop music standards, show tunes, sixties pop, Jazz, modern contemporary hits, and more!
- State-of-the-art digital tools for learning. Our members portal, powered by ChoirGenius provides an all-in-one platform to learn your music, keep up to date with special events and practices, and more - all accessible from any internet-connected smartphone, tablet, or computer! Are you someone who prefers printing out their music? No worries - we've got you covered there, too!
- Continual growth. Get valuable vocal instruction as you learn your music and perform it with us each week. Take advantage of workshops time-to-time with high-caliber coaches that visit us to share their knowledge and unique perspectives. Take advantage of your Barbershop Harmony Society membership to (optionally) participate in exciting educational training events such as Harmony University. Challenge yourself with Ontario regional events such as OQE (Ontario Quarteting Event)!
- Opportunities to show your stuff! As a member, you will have the chance to participate in a variety of exciting gigs, such as outdoor Christmas caroling, office parties, community events, shows/concerts and even regional singing competititons!
- A warm, supportive community within the chorus... As a member of the Nepean Northern Stars, you’re not only a voice singing in the ensemble- you’re part of a musical family!
- ... and throughout the world! As any "Barbershopper" will tell you, your new musical family isn't just our chorus. As members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, we're part of a continent-wide network of friendly, supportive and like minded groups and singers, who, like us - love to sing Barbershop! The memories and friendships you'll make will enrich your life and last a lifetime.
Formal music background is encouraged and appreciated... but not required.
Are you unfamiliar with the Barbershop music style? No problem! Our members (and talented director) are more than happy to assist you in learning the ropes. We'll place you in a section according to your voice range, mentor you, and provide advice for improvement. PLUS - as a Barbershop Harmony Society member, you'll be entitled to learning resources and opportunities to participate in workshops to broaden your musical knowledge!
Don't read sheet music? We've got you covered! Our learning materials also include recorded audio tracks for those of you who learn more efficiently by ear; sing along with the recordings in your car, on your mobile devices, on your stereo system.. anywhere!
Inexperienced/new singer? No problem there - we'll help you find your voice! While you still have to pass our audition to become a member, with a little dedication and learning, we'll help you fulfill your dreams of being a "Star" ensemble singer! You're safe with us - we promise!
